  • Charles Arinder and Eric Webb both sprang from the fertile soils of Columbia, Mississippi. After a childhood and adolescence full of the usual mischief and other shenanigans, Charles stayed in South Mississippi, attending The University of Southern Mississippi. Eric, however, had visions of grandeur, choosing the cold and snow of Providence, Rhode Island and the potential of a degree from Johnson and Whales Culinary School.

Charles eventually graduated with a degree in accounting and finance. Eric earned an associates degree and then went to work in numerous kitchens in New England and Chicago.

However, fate and food would soon again cross the paths of these two former childhood friends.

  • In the spring semester of 2006, Charles was working diligently as a semester intern at a local accounting firm. Staring at a computer screen for eight hours a day quickly became tiresome, and strangely enough, motivation for Charles to think of any means to speed the day along. During the long, monotonous hours, he began thinking about how much he DID NOT want to do accounting as a career. These thoughts spurred other ideas for his post-graduation era. This was the beginning.

One day the idea came to him of starting a restaurant. Something he had seen and really liked, but something that would be totally new to Hattiesburg. Eventually the vision of Caliente Grille came to him. His work on the concept began immediately. The only thing he wasn't sure of was whether or not he would be able to run a kitchen. That, my friend, is when he thought of his friend Eric.

They grew up together playing in the streets and fields. Charles knew somewhat of Eric's cooking escapades in Rhode Island. So Charles decided to ask Eric if he would be willing to help him develop some recipes for Caliente Grille, and Eric agreed. Well, Eric (being the smart guy we all know him to be) began thinking more and more about the Caliente Grille idea, and when they spoke soon afterwards, he made the bold proposal of them becoming partners in the business venture. Charles gladly accepted Eric as his partner-in-crime and head chef.

  • The following months were filled with Eric working in New Jersey and raising money for the business. Charles was finishing his degree and trying to complete the business plan. In December Charles finally graduated, and in February, Eric permanently moved back to Mississippi.

In February of 2007, Eric and Charles were at a local establishment one night and the idea of selling late-night burritos came up. For some reason (maybe the moon, maybe the beer), it sounded like such a great idea. That night the idea of "Kick Ass Burritos" was formed. The very next weekend, Eric and Charles were up until 5:00am selling burritos. Prior to the restaurant's opening, every Thursday and Friday night was filled selling late-night "Kick Ass Burritos". KAB gave the pair the opportunity to test recipes, advertise for free, build a small customer base, and make a VERY SMALL amount of money on the side.

Despite the warnings from friends, family and others, and the doubt shown by many businessmen in the area that they could succeed in the industry, Eric and Charles have joined the ranks of the Mississippi culinary elite and opened the Caliente Grille. They are excited and ready to take Caliente Grille to the top of its industry.
